An Interview with the International Delegation before the IESF eSports World Championship

The 10th eSports International Championship of IESF will be hosted by Taiwan from November 9-11, 2018, at the Kaohsiung Arena. Delegations from more than 50 countries and hundreds of foreign guests will gather at the beautiful city of Kaohsiung to participate and witness the paramount honor of this international event. This game involves so many participants and audiences that we are obliged to follow the rules of an international game by forming an international delegation to invite prominent figures of the participating countries to visit Taiwan before the competition to understand the preparations, conduct and on-site visit of the arena.

The delegation for this time is organized by 33 representatives from 29 countries from different continents of the world. The itinerary is arranged in 4 days and 3 nights with a briefing on the preparations for the championship, the visit to the Kaohsiung Arena, and the lodgings at the athletes’ village as the top priority. Others such as an interview with the important eSports teams of Taiwan and the delegation, the 2018 Taichung Cup organized by the Taichung City Government and TESL, a visit to the kick-off ceremony by the Flash Wolves for Chinatrust Brothers at Taichung International Baseball Stadium, a visit to the Flash Wolves and the tour around the eSports base located at Asia New Bay Area in the yacht arranged by the Cultural Department of the Kaohsiung City Government and a visit to The Pier-2 Art Center, and meal services.

The guests gave previous suggestions to TESL particularly the representatives from Indonesia and Korea. They shared with us the experience and insights from the 8th e-Sports International Championship in 2016 in Korea, and the 9th eSports International Championship in 2017 in Indonesia. They also expressed their confidence and recognition of the championship in Kaohsiung this year. They also shared with us their experience in the development of e-Sports in their own countries and saw the development of eSports as promising after the briefing. They firmly believed that TESL is ahead of other organizers and persistent in its educational affairs, and hoped to further exchange the experience and teaching materials and planning of one another. They are pleased with the support from the central and regional governments of Taiwan with respect to the project.

A banquet hosted by TESL and the major eSports teams was held at The Banquet Hall of THE LIN in Taichung on August 5 (Sunday) to welcome the guests. They shared their experience and insight freely. In addition, the eSports teams of Taiwan also learned more about the eSports in other countries from the guests and engaged in positive communications with these guests. In aligning with the new southward development policy, the government specifically arranged the partner teams from Southeast Asia and members of TESL in the same tables so that they could discuss international eSports, which will be helpful for Taiwan in hosting activities of this kind in the future.

The traditional image of eSports has been overthrown. The Olympic Council of Asia has made eSports a demonstration event in the 2018 Asian Games, and as an official event for competition in the 2022 Asian Games. Under this trend, IESF will be held Nov.9 to Nov.11 at the Kaohsiung Arena and will be telecast in several languages in favor of the eSports fans for their interest in the championship competition.

This is the first time that Taiwan is organizing such a large scale international eSports competition. For this reason, Kaohsiung City Government, CTESA and TESL have organized an “IESF Task Force” led by the Kaohsiung City Government for full support in the planning and execution of the event. The hospitality for the local tourists and hotel industries will be combined with the high gear preparations of the eSports competition to give a good impression for the players and guests at home and abroad. The elements of entertainment and music are also introduced to the event with the invitation of well-known domestic entertainers to perform on stage so that the public could enjoy the games and the high quality variety shows of the famous stars at the arena.
